Animated Water Text

For this tutorial you will need:
Paint Shop Pro  ~ download a trial version.
Flaming Pear's Flood ~ download a trial version.

WW-skyline gradient ~ download here, unzip into your PSP gradient folder.
PT Banana Split font ~ download here, unzip and open on your desktop.

 

Open a new image:
500 x 150 pixels
Transparent
16.7 Million colors

File > Save as > watertext.psp

Be sure to hit your save button on a regular basis!

 

Set the foreground style box to solid fill, #2351AE.  Set your background style box to gradient, WW-skyline with settings of linear, angle 0, and repeats 1.

Select your text tool.  In your tools option box set the line width to 2.

Click in your image.

These are the settings I used:
PT Banana Split
Size 48
Vector selected
Antialias checked

I typed Splish Splash.

Once the text is placed grab the corner of the formation box and pull the text out to fill the image better.

Objects > Align > Center in Canvas.

In your layer palette right click on the vector layer and convert to raster.

Rename this layer "original".

Selections > Modify > Contract > 3 > ok.

Duplicate your original layer twice.

Turn off your original and layer1.

Activate the top "copy of" layer.

Effects > Plug-in filters > Flaming Pear > Flood > these settings:
Horizon 47
Offset 0
Perspective 71
Altitude 64
Waviness 74
Complexity 0
Brilliance 30
Blur 37
Size 91
Height 20
Undulation 25
Glue normal
Black

After applying the flood filter set the blend mode of the same layer to either overlay or screen.  I will set mine to overlay.

Ants should still be marching!

Right click on one of the two copy layers and Merge > Merge visible.  Rename this layer "1" and turn it off.

Duplicate the original layer two times again.

Turn off the original layer.

Activate the top "copy of" layer.

Effects > Plug-in filters > Flaming Pear > Flood > same settings except change Complexity to 20.

After applying the flood filter set the blend mode of the same layer.

Right click on one of the two copy layers and Merge > Merge visible.  Rename this layer "2" and turn it off.

Ants should still be marching!

Duplicate the original layer two times again.

Turn off the original layer.

Activate the top "copy of" layer.

Effects > Plug-in filters > Flaming Pear > Flood > same settings except change Complexity to 40.

After applying the flood filter set the blend mode of the same layer.

Right click on one of the two copy layers and Merge > Merge visible.  Rename this layer "3" and turn it off.

Selections > Select none.

File > Jasc Products > Animation Shop.

In PSP, Activate the 1 layer.

Edit > Copy.

In Animation Shop (AS), Edit > Paste > As a new animation.

In PSP, activate the 2 layer.

Edit > Copy.

In AS, Edit > Paste > After current frame.

In PSP, activate the 3 layer.

Edit > Copy.

In AS, Edit > Paste > After current frame.

Edit > Select all.

Animation > Frame properties > Display time > 25 > ok.

View > Animation.

Play with the frame timing if you wish and then save your text!
