Contoured Flower

For this tutorial you will need:
Paint Shop Pro 8 & Animation Shop  ~ download a trial version.
Flower shape ~ download here and unzip into your PSP shapes file.
(You may or may not have this shape in your library.)

Open a new image:
100 x 100 pixels
Transparent
Raster background
16.7 Million colors

Set your foreground to null and your background to a solid color, I am using #954B4B.

Select your shapes tool and set at:
Flower
Anti-alias checked
Create as vector checked
Line width 0

Holding down your shift key draw a flower about 65 x 65 pixels.

Objects > Align > Center in canvas.

Activate the object selector tool.

Right click inside the bounding box > Create raster selection.

In your layer palette right click on the vector layer and convert to raster.

In your layer palette right click on the raster layer and rename the layer flower.

Add a new raster layer and name it shading.

Activate the fill tool.

Set your background to null and your foreground to a medium version of the color you used for your flower, I am using #C68C8C.

Selections > Modify > Contract > 3.

Click inside the selection to fill.

Lighten up that color again, I am using #F0E0E0.

Selections > Modify > Contract > 3.

Click inside the selection to fill.

Selections > Select none.

Adjust > Blur > Gaussian > 2.

Activate the flower layer.

Selections > Select all.

Selections > Float.

Selections > Defloat.

Activate the shading layer.

Effects > Distortion effects > Twist > -50.

Selections > Select none.

In your layer palette right click on either layer and Merge > Merge visible.

In your layer palette right click on the merged layer and duplicate.

Image > Rotate > Free rotate > Left and 45.

Set your foreground to null and your background to a solid yellow, I am using #FAE25E.

Activate your shapes tool and set at ellipse with the other settings the same.

Draw a small circle in the center of the flower about 18 pixels in diameter.

Center the yellow spot.

In your layer palette right click on the vector layer and convert to raster.

Adjust > Blur > Gaussian > 3.

Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add noise > 20, uniform, monochrome UNchecked.

In your layer palette right click on either layer and Merge > Merge visible.

Save as file type of your choosing.
