Poor Man's Marble Text

Terms of Use

For this tutorial you will need:
Paint Shop Pro 8  ~ download a trial version.
Red Cube pattern ~ download here and unzip into your PSP patterns folder.
(*Note ~ this pattern came with v8 - but I included it just incase.)

Open a new image:
600 x 300 pixels
Transparent
Raster background
16.7 Million colors

Select your text tool

Set the foreground to null and the background to pattern with these settings:
Red cubes
Angle 0
Scale 100

Click on your image and set your text.
These are the text settings I used:
Vector
Lithograph
Size 86
Stroke 0
Anti-alias checked

If you want to stretch your text you can do so by grabbing onto the various manipulation points on the bounding box.  I have stretched mine to make it taller.

Objects > Align > Center in canvas.

Selections > From vector object.

In your layer palette right click on the vector layer and convert to raster.

Adjust > Blur > Average > 7 > ok.

Effects > Artistic effects > Chrome > these settings:
Flaws 1
Brightness 0
Color white

Effects > Artistic effects > Halftone > these settings:
Pattern square
Size 42
Screen angles:  (1) 97, (2) 49, (3) 60
Overlay checked
Blend mode Luminance Legacy
Opacity 49
Color scheme RGB

Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize > Hue & Saturation 0 > ok.

In the layer palette right click on the working layer and duplicate.

Adjust > Blur > Gaussian > 5 > ok.

In the layer palette set the blend mode of the active layer to darken.

In the layer palette right click on the working layer and duplicate.

Effects > Texture effects > Fur > these settings:
Blur 25
Density 85
Length 96
Transparency 90

In the layer palette set the blend mode of the active layer to overlay.

In the layer palette right click on the working layer and duplicate.

Effects > Texture effects > Mosaic-Antique > these settings:
Columns & Rows 25
Tile diffusion 50
Grout width 10
Grout diffusion 50

In the layer palette set the blend mode of the active layer to overlay.

Selections > Select none.

In the layer palette right click on any of the layers and Merge Visible.

Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize > Hue & Saturation 0 > ok.

Effects > 3D effects > Inner bevel > these settings:
Bevel  11
Width  10
Smoothness  20
Depth  4
Ambience  0
Shininess  0
Color  White
Angle  315
Intensity  38
Elevation  35

That is it for the basic PM Marble Text, for the colored inset continue on....

Selections > Select all.

Selections > Float.

Selections > Defloat.

In the layer palette right click on the working layer and duplicate.

Selections > Contract > 8 > ok.

Selections > invert.

Edit > Clear.

Selections > select none.

Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize > Hue 150, Saturation 30 > ok.

In the layer palette right click on any of the layers and Merge Visible.

Now your text is ready to use!
